AECP | Easy Ink Blending Techniques

07/17/202507/17/2025 Janine 2 comments

While yesterday’s card focused on minimalism, today’s card definitely has the Wow! factor. The third class for the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) focused on Easy Ink Blending Techniques.

I was so intrigued by Lesson 5 in this class that I had to try it out on a card myself. This is definitely a technique that I want to use more often when card making. Since I used stamps that were a bit larger than in the class example, I had to make my card a little bit bigger. With these cards I never go by standard size. Usually I go with a height of 4 inches and adjust the width as needed (as long as it fits into an envelope, right?

All products used are listed at the end of this post.

For my faux watercoloring I did not use water color paper. After I cut my card to size I realized that I used simple cardstock and just wasn’t in the mood to cut everything again. So I expected some warping of the cardstock which of course happened. But with a heavy book and adhering it with foam adhesive you can flatten it pretty well.

I started by heat embossing the flowers and leaves from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Translucent Foliage with white embossing powder. I then watered down my chosen inks on a plastic mat: Pool, Aqualicious, Hydrangea, Be Grateful, Chamomille, Terracotta, Matcha Tea and Olive and just added the inks with a brush. I know the results would be even better with water color paper but I wanted to share that cardstock works just as well.

In addition, I added some ink splatters and some matching drops. For the sentiment I used a stamp from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Arched Foliage, stacked it three times for dimension and added another sentiment from the same kit directly onto the card.

My lesson learned in this class: even though you don’t have certain tools available at home, you can make your projects work with the things you have.
