Since I love Altenew‘s products so much I decided to take part in their Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) to become a certified educator. Part of the program is taking classes and creating cards for each class. There are two levels each finishes with a challenge before you can move to the next challenge. The program finishes off with a final challenge.
So in the next couple of weeks you will see lots of cards from me as I have already finished off all of my Level 1 courses.
Let’s get started with the first class: All about layering 3.
I have to admit this is probably my least favorite card because it involves my least favorite task when crafting and that is fussy cutting. But you got to do what you got to do if you don’t have a matching die to your stamp set or stencil. (I’ve just realized – while browsing the Altenew website – that there is a matching die for the tulips.)
All products used are listed at the end of this post.

I used Hammermill cardstock for all of my card parts: the base, the panel and for my ink blended elements.
I started my card by using the Build-A-Garden: Tulips & Friends stamp and stencil and inked up the tulips with my all time favorite colors. I actually created two sets of tulips not knowing that I would be needing them when putting my card together. Sometimes I just do things intuitively.
For my background I used the Raised Sentiments 3D Embossing Folder. I inked up the folder with Mild Yellow and ran it through my die cut machine a couple of times. This way the background is yellow and the raised sentiments stay white. I find this technique works best with lighter colors.
The final step (and my favorite part) before putting the card together was fussy cutting.

My card base measures 4.25″” x 5.5″”. I cut off 0.25″” of my embossed background and used foam adhesive to add dimension. In addition, I used foam adhesive to adhere the first full layer of the tulips. I cut apart the second set and arranged it underneath my first layer.
Last but not least I added a sentiment from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Arched Foliage.
I really like how an additional layer cut apart creates all this dimension.
