I am still no pro when it comes to watercoloring, however I love a fun watercolor background. For the Creative Watercolor Media class for Level 2 of Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) I chose the lesson that focused on watercoloring with inks. I really like that you can use Altenew’s Fresh Dye Inks not only for stamping and ink blending but also for watercoloring. I am a big fan of this.

For my background I used 200g watercolor paper and all the inks from the Warm Gray Fresh Dye Ink Mini Cube Set starting with the lightest color Morning Frost. I added a little bit of ink onto a plastic sheet I have and spritzed some water on it. With a brush I applied the ink onto the watercolor paper. In between each color I used a heat tool to dry the layers. Because of the pigments used in the inks the colors have a slightly purple shade which you can’t really se on the pictures but in real.

Once all my layers of ink were dry, I felt that something was still missing so I added some Antique Gold Metallic Ink Spray for a bit of color. I then cut out the word hi from the Bold Alphabet in black cardstock and stacked it three times. I am usually not a person who does matting on their cards but I had a frame cut out from black cardstock which fit perfectly onto my card base of 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. I cut down my background by 1/4″ and adhered it onto the card base. I really like how the color black is repeated in the sentiment as well as in the background as a mat. Definitely something I will do more often in the future.
